DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Police in DeKalb County said the suspect in a hit-and-run that killed one child and injured another has fled the country.

Police identified the driver as Concepcion Cruz, 57, after they found the truck they believe was involved.

Police said surveillance video of Cruz' truck helped them find it. They believe he is the one who hit and killed Caleb Lindsay and injured his 4-year-old sister.

On April 5, the children were standing at the entrance of a Walmart store on Tucker Norcross Road in Tucker waiting to cross the road when they said Cruz hit them and kept going.

DeKalb County detectives working with federal partners verified Cruz fled the country.

On Tuesday, police said Cruz boarded a flight from Jackson-Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport bound for El Salvador.

DeKalb County police have obtained warrants on Cruz for two counts of felony hit-and-run.

Federal authorities, along with the El Salvador government, are in the process of locating and extraditing Cruz.
