Griffin-Spalding school board accepts football coachs resignation

Posted: Updated:

The Griffin-Spalding school board voted Thursday evening to accept the resignations of Griffin High School football coach Steve Devoursney and his wife, Jessica. Both were employed by the district, and both were implicated in an investigation into academic misconduct.

The investigation centered around the falsification of a student's academic records in 2011, when that student transferred from Griffin to Spalding High School. The student's records showed he completed a full semester of work for a math and biology course online, in just two days.

The Devoursneys were found by the district to have played a part in the academic misconduct. They submitted their resignations Wednesday, and those resignations were accepted by the school board Thursday, following a nearly three hour closed door session.

The Griffin High School football team, led by Steve Devoursney, won the 2013 class 4A Georgia State Championship.
