BROOKHAVEN, GA (CBS46) -

The Red Cross was assisting 46 residents Friday night who were displaced after an apartment fire in DeKalb County.

The fire broke out at the Terraces at Brookhaven apartments in the 3500 block of Buford Highway in Brookhaven.

Fire officials said people were jumping from windows to escape the smoke and fire.

"There was only one place to go," said Glenn Hitson, who had to jump out of his window to escape. "I don't know how I didn't break my neck."

There were no reports of injuries. A dog was rescued in the fire.
