TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo firefighters battled flames at an apartment complex on Secor Road early Saturday morning.

The fire started shortly before 5 a.m. on the third floor of the Secor Terrace Apartments in the 4900 block of Secor Road.

Firefighters had to go into defensive mode after arriving, meaning they had to retreat and fight the flames from outside the building.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials estimate that there was about $750,000 worth of damage done, but demolition has not been ordered.

The Red Cross assisted 21 families after the fire, including 30 adults and 16 children, with food, clothing, medical needs and temporary shelter.

The damage is so extensive the Red Cross says recovery mode for the residents could last days or even weeks.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
