Bubba Watson wins a second green jacket at Augusta
AUGUSTA, GA (CBS46) -
Former Georgia Bulldog Bubba Watson won the 2014 Masters tournament played at Augusta National Golf Club. This is Watson's second Masters win in three years.
"Small-town guy named Bubba now has two green jackets. It's pretty wild," Watson said after the green jacket ceremony.
His wife and adopted son, Caleb, were watching at the 18th green as Watson made his final putt to clinch the tournament. Watson was in tears as he hugged his son, saying there were a lot of emotions on the final hole.
"I knew he was back there, and I knew my wife was back there, knew my family was back there," Watson said. "Seeing him, what a blessing that is for us to have to go through the adoption process. There's so many kids out there that need homes, would love homes. So you know, that dream, hate to say this because I have it on right now, but having my son means more than the green jacket."
When asked about the tears and emotions running high, Watson said, "So for me, it's a dream to be on the PGA tour. It's a dream to win, and winning any tournament is a big deal. Winning the jacket is a little bigger deal. So, yeah, I'm going to cry, because, why me? Why Bubba Watson from Bagdad, FL? Why is he winning? So I just always ask the question, why me, why me. That's why I'm always going to cry, you know. I'll probably cry again tonight sometime, just thinking about it."
As for the UGA support, "I think this jacket, I think this is for them, for everybody at the University of Georgia, for the teachers that helped me - helped me and tutored me to get through school there. Preparing myself for professional golf at the University of Georgia was pretty good, helped me out pretty good. I've done quite well since then. No, I always have University of Georgia on my bag and on my mind. But the green jacket is always - it's part theirs, too."
Later, Watson (@bubbawatson) tweeted with a picture, "Champ dinner @WaffleHouse! #hashbrowns #covered."
