Porsche set to open new North American headquarters near Atlanta airport

Posted: Updated:

Sixteen years after Porsche first brought their corporate offices to the metro Atlanta area, they will open a new facility near Hartsfield-Jackson Airport that includes something the company has never had adjacent to its Atlanta operations: a test track.

At a construction cost of $100 million, the North American Porsche headquarters figures to add a new dynamic to the area around the airport.

"Standing here today, I'm overwhelmed," said Porsche North American CEO Detlev Von Platen, on site during a hard hat tour of the facility. "I never would have expected what I saw on this piece of paper becoming this unique, nice building here."

"It puts a spotlight not only on Atlanta, but on the state of Georgia to have a world class facility like this," said Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, who also attended the behind-the-scenes showing of the project. Construction is set to be complete later in 2014, likely by September, according to the company.

The tour of the facility on Monday coincided with the company celebrating the "topping out" of the project, meaning the construction has reached its highest physical point. Mayor Kasim Reed was also in attendance, along with Cagle.

The test track on site will be part of the "Porsche Experience," designed for Porsche customers who want to drive their vehicles or test potential purchases on the track.
