Henry County police awarded William Baldwin $6,000 for helping them with an investigation involving an officer who was killed.

"I just kind of knew something was fishy" said Baldwin.

Police said Officer Elgin Daniel was killed by Ruben Marin-Garibay when he went to help a stranded motorist. Officers said Marin-Garibay fled after hitting Officer Daniel.

"I miss just being able to talk to him and getting advice," said Jarius Daniel, Officer Daniel's son.

Baldwin said the suspect came into the business where he works and wanted to by a mirror for his vehicle.

Police said the suspect's mirror fell off when he hit Officer Daniel.

"He (co-worker) said, ‘did you see that in the news about that officer getting killed?' I said yes. He said, "well that mirror fits that truck," said Baldwin.

Baldwin said he then notified police.

"It just seemed like the right thing to do and I just wish somebody would do that if something like that happened to me," said Baldwin.

Baldwin said he will divide the money between people who work with him, who helped provide the tip.
