ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A large storm system sweeping up from the Gulf of Mexico will bring higher rain chances to Atlanta and north Georgia by Friday afternoon. Right now, we are not forecasting very heavy rain, but the wet weather could linger for the better part of the day.

If you are traveling south on Friday or Saturday, flash flooding will be highly likely across south Georgia, south Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Those regions could see upwards of 5 inches of rain, while Atlanta will see rainfall amounts around 1/2 inch.

Thankfully, all the rain will be gone by Easter Sunday, both in the city of Atlanta and the southeast, and your holiday plans will be soaked in sunshine rather than raindrops.

Next week, a much anticipated and welcome warming trend begins. Look for highs around the 80 degree mark by the middle of next week for central and north Georgia.
