ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Some 10,000 tires dumped illegally at the Cascade Parc Subdivision in Southwest Atlanta. It's not known how long people had tossed the tires on this property.

Atlanta City Council member Keisha Lance Bottoms and the City of Atlanta's Office of the Solicitor announced the completion of the cleanup Thursday.

"I'm pleased with the prompt response by our Office of the Solicitor, and I am also pleased that this clean-up came at no cost to the city," Bottoms said. "Illegal tire dumping has been a pervasive problem across Atlanta for years. We will continue to aggressively go after these property owners for not maintaining a safe and healthy environment, no matter who is responsible for performing these illegal acts."

The tire removal started on March 3 and took nearly one month. The tires filled 54 trucks and the total cost of the clean-up was $66,200. The owner took responsibility and the City of Atlanta did not have to pay for the removal.
