A large storm system sweeping in from the Gulf of Mexico is poised to create a holiday travel headache in the southeast. Heavy rain from Florida to south Georgia is forecast Friday, with the rain threat shifting to the East Coast on Saturday. Make sure to stay weather alert on your trip and avoid those water-covered roads when you come across them.
A large flood watch is currently in place around the Gulf States, where upwards of 5 inches of rain is forecast to fall from Friday morning through midday Saturday. Around Atlanta, up to one inch of rain is very likely, with most of the precipitation falling Friday night into early Saturday morning.
As for Easter Sunday, all the rain looks to end, leaving us with some welcome sunshine and warmer temperatures. Sunrise is at 7:01 a.m. Sunday, with sunrise service temperatures around 50 degrees and light, but cool, northerly winds.
