Two teenage girls were shot after an unsanctioned party at Wade Walker Park in Stone Mountain turned chaotic Sunday evening.
Close to 1,000 people reportedly showed for the party that was promoted on Facebook. The organizer did not have a permit.
When DeKalb County Police arrived to disperse the crowd, someone began firing shots inside a vehicle.
Bullets grazed the heads of 19-year-olds Chardonae Meeks and Maya Scott as they were driving out of the park.
Both girls are expected to recover from their wounds. Police said one of the victims was pregnant. No arrests have been made at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
DeKalb County Police Department Chief Operating Officer Dr. Cedric Alexander said officers plan to increase patrols in parks and increase their presence on social media sites.
"We are going to be monitoring all the websites where there is potential for young people to be invited to unauthorized parties at parks here in DeKalb," said Alexander. "We are going to intervene and intercept those messages and get ahead of these events before they turn into large crowds."
DeKalb requires permits for organized events in parks that the general public is invited to attend.
