Today's Most: Mafia boss says business is so bad, criminals need to get real jobs

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

TODAY'S MOST...Interesting statements from a big-time criminal: A mafia chief in Italy claims that the economy's so bad in that country, the members of his crime family should get real jobs because crime really isn't paying.

Giovanni Di Giacomo is the head of one of the families in Sicily, and he's in jail. Prosecutors secretly recorded some of his conversations while he's been behind bars. Di Giacomo says so many businesses closed down or simply cannot pay extortion money that it "might not be worth the bother" trying to continue to extort them.

He thinks some of the young members of the family might be better off leaving a life of crime and deciding to "get a real job".

Italy's economy struggled badly for the last few years. There's high unemployment, and the entire business community's not nearly as strong as it was before the recession started back in 2008 and 2009.
