Van used in smash & grab believed to be stolen church van

Posted: Updated:

Atlanta police are investigating a smash and grab robbery in Southwest Atlanta. Thieves rammed the van they were driving into the front of City Gear sporting goods store around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

Just seconds after the van crashed through the glass front, two men went to work stealing as much merchandise as they could grab.

A security camera captured the entire theft. Police suspect the white van used was stolen from a church.

Investigators are also checking on the possibility that the same van was used in a separate smash and grab in Habersham County. In that robbery, crooks are suspected of stealing a number of guns from a local pawn shop.
