Armed robbery suspects killed in early morning car crash

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Atlanta Police said two robbery suspects were killed early Monday morning in a car crash on Joseph Lowery Boulevard, in northwest Atlanta. The crash happened just moments after a man and woman were robbed at gun point near Atlantic station.

"The individuals who are deceased in that vehicle were, in fact, the perpetrators of this robbery," said Sgt. Greg Lyon with the Atlanta Police. "We're trying to verify all that information, that's why investigators are with the victims right now, to walk through what happened and get their statements."

Investigators said the male victim got in his car to follow the suspects, after the man and woman were held up at gun point. The woman stayed behind to call 911.

Police weren't certain what caused the suspects' car to lose control. It slammed into a fire hydrant, then a telephone pole, in front of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The passengers had to be cut from the car, and were pronounced dead on the scene.

One of the men was identified as Antonio Brown, 29. The name of the other passenger was not immediately released, as investigators were trying to notify their next of kin.
