TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Food prices are going up, even doubling in some cases, and it's hitting small businesses hard. Many are raising their prices just to keep up.

But one Toledo restaurant owner says she's trying to make sure any higher prices get customers healthier options.

The owner of El Tipico says while she will have to raise prices, the food there is fresh, healthy and will eventually be 80 percent organic.

Dina Villa says she cannot combat the rising cost of food, but what she can control is what she's giving to customers. In order to serve meat and produce that is chemical and antibiotic free, a new menu and new prices are in the works. Less money will be spent on the marketing for the restaurant in order to bring the healthiest locally-grown food to the table.

"But if it means we've got to raise them an extra 25 cents, and extra 50, knowing that the integrity of our food is still intact, knowing that our food has no chemicals, no GMO's, we're going to go organic," explained Villa.

Customer Appreciation Dollar Days at the restaurant won't be going anywhere. The owner admits they will barely be able to cover the cost of the $1 items, but says it's a risk that's worth it, especially if it means she's helping keep customers healthy and coming back for another 46 years.
