The Night Blooming Cereus is making an appearance in the desert.

The cactus itself is unimpressive and resembles a stick more than a living plant.  However, the flower the cactus produces is showy and impressive.

Viewer Chauna Mae snapped the below See It, Snap It, Send It of her Night Blooming Cereus shining bright white during the night.

According to DesertUSA.com the flowers are "very fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers, which bloom for only one night in June or July, are up to 4 inches wide and as much as 8 inches long."

The flowers draw large moths and bats to the plant for pollination.

The Night Blooming Cereus generally blooms once a year in May or June.

Because this plant only blooms at night, it means many people could miss seeing the flowers, Tohono Chul Park hosts Bloom Night.

On Bloom Night the park stays open late, with help from volunteers, to allow the public to see the Cereus in bloom.

Tohono Chul Park claims to have the largest private collection of the Night Blooming Cereus in the world, carefully cultivating the plants over dozens of years.

Tohono Chul Park's experts watch the cactus closely to determine which night the majority of the flowers will open.

According to Tohono Chul Park this is "no small feat considering Bloom Night cannot be called until between noon and 4 p.m. the day of the bloom."

That means there is short notice for your chance to see the flowers at Tohono Chul Park.
