The Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy who took his own life Thursday had some deep, dark secrets.

Ramon "Charley" Armandariz's volatile behavior led many to believe he had a drug problem or suffered from mental illness.

But CBS 5 has learned that the deputy's issues ran much deeper.

CBS 5 just obtained a search warrant from the deputy's home, where investigators found hundreds of driver's licenses, ID cards, passports, airport security clearance cards, empty wallets, license plates and an assortment of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Most of the items found were stored in MCSO evidence bags, raising concerns that Armendariz was not processing evidence, which potentially could jeopardize cases dating back to 2007.

Sheriff Joe Arpiao told CBS 5 that he had no indication that Armendariz was involved in any kind of criminal activity.

"This puzzles me," said Arpaio. "The only thing I can tell you is that we're going to look into it and try to find out what really happened."
