Vigil held for decapitated man, missing wife

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Neighbors in the Great Waters Reynolds Plantation Community near Lake Oconee came together to pray for a murdered man and his missing wife Saturday night.

The Lake Oconee Community Church hosted the candlelight vigil for Russell and Shirley Dermond Saturday at 8:15 p.m. The vigil was led by Lake Oconee Community Church pastor David Key, who was joined by Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.  His department has taken the lead on the investigation.

"I can assure you we're doing all that's possible to find out who did this, to apprehend them and bring them to justice," Sills told the crowd, as they gathered by candlelight.

CBS46.com reported earlier in the week that 88-year-old Russell Dermond's body was found in the couple's million-dollar lakefront home. He had been decapitated. Sills said the head has yet to be found.

Dermond's 87-year-old wife Shirley is believed to have been kidnapped.
