A three-vehicle accident has shut down the northbound side of Highway 41 in Cartersville on Sunday.
The crash happened Sunday morning at the intersection of Grassdale Road.
Police initially reported it as a four-vehicle pileup, but have since updated that number to three.
Cartersville police says couple headed to church was turning off of Grassdale Road in their SUV. That's when another driver headed north on Highway 41 and allegedly ran the red light. That driver crashed into the SUV, causing it to flip over.
The male driver and female passenger of the SUV was taken to Cartersville Medical Center. The man suffered a severe injury to his left arm but is expected to be okay. His passenger has a back injury, but the extent of it is not yet known.
The driver of the car that reportedly struck them was taken to Floyd Medical Center. Their condition is unknown.
A third vehicle was hit by one of the others involved in the initial impact. No word on the condition of that driver or any occupants.
The roadways in the area are now back open.
