DeKalb County police identify murdered child, name another suspect in related case

Posted: Updated:

According to police, 9-month-old Kendarius Edwards, was shot three to four times at point-blank range.

The shooting was part of a violent home invasion that put three women into the hospital, including his mother and grandmother.

Police suspect the attack was retaliation for the murder of Alexis Malone, 19.

Investigators also suspect Malone's friend, Kayla Dixon is somehow involved in her murder and have issued a warrant for her arrest.

On Sunday, police considered Dixon a person of interest, but say information they obtained overnight and in the morning hours of Monday led to the change in status.

Malone and Dixon were both friends with three suspects the police are currently looking for in relation to another murder.

That murder occurred on May 3. Investigators believe Malone and Dixon witnessed that murder.

The suspects in that case are Cutrez Johnson, 16; Oshlushla Smith, 20; and Kamontay Cullins, 19.

In addition to Dixon, police also suspect them of shooting Malone.

Investigators are looking at the home invasion as a possible retaliation for Malone's death, because Johnson and Smith are blood relatives to the women who were shot in the home.

Police say two to three masked gunmen broke into the home and chased the women upstairs to a bathroom.

They then kicked the door in and opened fire on the group, killing Kendarius, investigators said.
