Lightning is believed to be the cause of an overnight house fire on Thornapple Trail SW in Lawrenceville.
Gwinnett County firefighters found flames shooting from the roof when they arrived on scene. Those flames forced fire crews from the home shortly after they entered. The intense fire caused the roof to collapse on the one-story home.
The cause of the fire appears to be a lightning strike during a thunderstorm, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. A woman who lived in the home told fire officials she was getting ready for bed when she saw a flash of lightning. She also heard a loud boom and smelled smoke a few moments before she discovered the fire.
The resident was displaced from the home. Her neighbors and family are assisting her.
No one was injured in the fire. The home was a total loss according to Gwinnett County fire.
