A teen could have been seriously injured Wednesday after she nearly ran in front of a Snellville police officer's cruiser.

The jaywalking incident, caught on dashcam, shows two teens running between cars and almost directly in front of the cruiser on Wisteria Drive near Hwy. 78.

One girl pulled her friend back just as the officer slammed on his brakes. No one was injured.

Snellville police want to use this video to warn against the dangers of jaywalking.

"Use this as an opportunity to show your kids that cutting between cars can result in terrible consequences. If there is no crosswalk available then they should cross at an intersection. At least that way they are in front of all the cars," said an official from the department on their Facebook page.

As for why there isn't a crosswalk there now, they said it's in the works.

"We worked over two years with a property owner to acquire the necessary easement to put the crosswalks in and to improve the intersection. Then, we had to get on the construction schedule. Unfortunately, it won't be fixed before the end of the school year, but will be in place for next year," said the unnamed official.

Even where no crosswalk exists at an intersection, police said there is an implied crosswalk.
