PALMETTO, GA (CBS46) -

The body of a woman who was found around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon on a dirt road in Palmetto in Fulton County has been identified.

Investigators said a man and his grandson found the body while riding four wheelers in the area.

Police identified the victim as Latonya Morris-Figg, 45, of Stone Mountain.

An autopsy was conducted and it was discovered that she suffered multiple gun shot wounds. One of the gun shot wounds was located in the side of the head area and the second gun shot wound was located in the throat area.

"There are some signs of trauma at the scene and we believe the incident took place here," Sergeant Lee Gragg said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is assisting the smaller police force with the homicide investigation. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office are also using K-9 units to search for any potential clues.

"The good thing, was the body was found fairly quickly," Sgt. Gragg said. "It appears she had been deceased no longer than an hour from the body being discovered."

Police said there are no missing persons reports in the area that fit the woman's description.

The men who discovered the body gave police a statement but Gragg said they would not comment on that part of their investigation.

The Palmetto Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are following up on several leads at this time. If you have any information on this case, please call Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg at 770-463-9068.
