Investigators said Shirley Dermond, 87, died after suffering blunt force trauma to the head.
Dennis Higgs, a fisherman, found Shirley Dermond's body while fishing on Lake Oconee.
"We came down, got in the boat, left out, and on the way to go fishing I noticed something that looked strange," said Higgs.
Deputies would later confirm it was Shirley Dermond's body. They believe she was abducted two weeks ago after someone decapitated her husband, Russell Dermond, 89.
"We got close enough that we were 95 percent sure that it was a body or something," said Higgs.
Investigators believe someone killed Shirley Dermond and then dumped her body into the lake because they said no water was found in her lungs.
"I don't want to go into detail. She was just hung up on a log, a tree top of a tree," said Higgs.
He said he could tell it was the body of a woman.
Deputies said they will continue to search the lake looking for Russell Dermond's head.
Investigators are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. If you have information which could help in the investigation, please call the Putnam County Sheriff's Department at (706) 485-8557.
