A veterans' memorial in Gwinnett County was almost finished and set to be dedicated this coming weekend. But now, some tiles have gone missing.
Snellville Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts says tiles with the names of some eight servicemen appear to have been stolen.
"It was probably kids," Witts said. "They probably thought, 'Hey, let's see what's in these boxes.'"
Witts said the tiles were in the process of being placed on the memorial near Snellville's City Hall. They were lying in a box nearby. He believes the tiles disappeared sometime Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning.
The ceremony is planned to go on as scheduled Saturday at 4 p.m.
