ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A fire caused heavy damage to a duplex home in Lilburn early Sunday morning.

Gwinnett County firefighters were called to the home on the 900 block of Waverly Court, NW just after 1 a.m.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the two-story two-family home. The fire had already reached the building's attic.

Investigators say the fire started on the deck. It caused heavy damage to the deck and an outside wall.

A babysitter and three children were awake at the home when the fire broke out. They smelled the smoke and left the home before the smoke alarms started sounding. Everyone made it out safely.

Three adults along with the three children were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
