ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Atlanta police are investigating the death of a teenager who was shot around 5 p.m. on Monday.

Investigators said the victim is 14-year-old Mi'Tavious Smith of Decatur.

Police responded to a 911 call on the 400 block of Sunset Avenue in Northwest Atlanta that a person had been shot. When police arrived they found Mi'Tavious deceased inside the apartments.

"Right now, we are going to call it a death investigation," said Capt. Paul Guerrucci, the homicide commander. "We have received some information as to how he got shot. But, we still have a lot of work to do to try and verify that."

Guerrucci said Mi'Tavious was shot at least once. He was at the apartments visiting family and friends at the time. Police said witnesses are cooperating and there is no one in custody.

"It is just a complex investigation," Guerrucci said. "It is going to take some time to factually iron through some of the information we have already received."
