Stanley Williams says he's not a fortune teller, but what he predicted came true Tuesday afternoon at a Union City town home community. Police said Malik McDaniel was driving a Ford SUV around an apartment complex with several people standing on the running boards located on the side of the vehicle. Witnesses said one of the passengers, 17-year-old Sandreus Hillsman, fell off the SUV as it was moving.
"Somebody ran into the house and said, 'Man, look what is happening.' I looked out my window right there and I saw the boy laying out there and then the ambulance came," said Williams.
Hillsman was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
"It is just the worst thing I ever seen, a 17-year-old boy losing his life like that," said Williams.
Neighbors said it's not the first time they've seen young people riding on the side of vehicles.
"A lot of kids ride on the backs of trucks. A lot of people don't know if it is legal or illegal to do so," said Travis McClendon.
"They say I need a ride to the store and they jump up on the running board and ride up the street," said Williams.
McDaniel has been charged with reckless conduct, driving on a suspended license and homicide by vehicle. Family members said Hillsman was one of McDaniel's close friends.
"He wasn't even 18 years old. He was real young. That is sad," said McClendon.
