ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Reading books during the summer can inspire children's imaginations while also providing opportunities to explore their communities.

So says Sue Rodman, publisher of the family lifestyle blog Field Trips With Sue.

Rodman is encouraging families to plan day trips to attractions and venues throughout the city of Atlanta using adventure books to guide them on their journey.

In her article Percy Jackson Tour of Atlanta, Rodman gets her inspiration from the third book in the Percy Jackson Heroes of Olympus series, The Mark of Athena, in which the fictional character Percy Jackson and his friends land their ship in the city of Atlanta. She suggests touring Oakland Cemetery, the Carter Center, the restaurant Six Feet Under and a King of Pops popsicle stand to mimic the adventures in the book.

Rodman was featured Thursday on Better Mornings Atlanta.
