15-year-old charged after bringing gun to Spalding County middle school

Posted: Updated:

A 15-year-old teenager was charged this week after brining a gun to a Spalding County middle school.

According to Captain Tony Ranieri with the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, on May 27, the resource officer at Kennedy Road Middle School in Griffin was notified that a student had a gun at the school.

After a search, a .380 caliber handgun was found, Ranieri said. The student was charged with possession of a handgun by a person under 18, possession of a weapon on school property and disruption of the operation of a public school.

This was the second time the school was notified that the student had a gun on campus. According to Ranieri, the resource officer was told that the same student said he had a gun at a bus stop on May 23, although no gun was found during this incident.
