Gwinnett County police officer arrested

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A five-year veteran of the Gwinnett County Police Department has found himself on the wrong-side of the law.

GCPD arrested colleague Ryan Head Saturday.

According to GCPD Cpl. Jake Smith, Head was a passenger in a car at fault in a hit-and-run. A witness followed the car and called police. The witness then blocked the car in a cul-de-sac.

That's when the witness said Head got out of the car, pulled out a handgun and tapped on the witness' window with it.

No shots were fired and the gun was never pointed directly at anyone.

Officers arrived and arrested Head. He was verbally combative with the arresting officers, but did not physically resist.

On Sunday, GCPD terminated Head according to Gwinnett County's Merit Rules. Head opted to resign instead.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted.
