(CNN) - The Chinese government has shut down access to Google in the country.

Censorship watchdog greatfire.org reports the search engine, as well as options like Gmail and Google calendar are inaccessible.

This move came ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.

Discussion about the event is strictly censored by the Chinese government.

This isn't the first time this has happened. In 2012 the site and its services were blocked as the Communist party met to appoint new leaders.
