Tuesday, a DeKalb County grand jury indicted a man accused of killing an 18-month-old child earlier this year.
Nicholas Wade, 22, has been charged with malice, murder, felony murder, cruelty to children, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
According to the indictment, Wade struck the infant, Keon Belk, in the abdomen - a fatal blow that caused the child's death.
"The indictment outlines a senseless and brutal attack on an innocent and defenseless child," said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James, who previously worked as an attorney in the Crimes Against Children's Unit. "It is truly a tragedy any time a child loses their life in this manner."
Wade was taken into custody in February after a violent standoff with police. At the time of the child's death, Wade was dating the infant's mother, Jillian Belk.
