Cobb County leaders opposed to Braves stadium transit funding plan

Posted: Updated:

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A plan to fund a proposed transit line to the new Atlanta Braves stadium has met opposition from several Cobb County leaders.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/1hHMbTb) that Cobb County Commissioners Bob Ott, Lisa Cupid and Helen Goreham say they don't support Chairman Tim Lee's proposal to use a special purpose local option sales tax to partially fund a transit system to the new suburban Atlanta stadium.

The proposed transit system hasn't yet been approved by the commissioners. However, Lee's suggestion called for $100 million of the $494 million tab to be paid through revenue from a new SPLOST.

Commissioners have cited potential costs, the limited reach of the proposed transit system and its potential inability to address existing traffic issues in their opposition.
