ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A homeowner told Gwinnett County firefighters they'd only been gone for a few minutes before their house was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters received a 911 call from the owner of the home on the 1200 block of Margo Trail, NW in Lawrenceville at about 2 p.m.

When crews got to the older one-story home, they could see flames already shooting through the roof on one side of the structure.

The home was set back in a heavily wooded area with a dirt road leading up to it. Firefighters could only bring one truck near the house because of this. Some crews had to walk to the blaze on foot to help out.

The house suffered significant damage and is considered a total loss.

No one was home at the time flames broke out. The homeowner said they were doing renovation work in the basement. They'd left for about a half hour, and when they returned, they saw the fire. No one was living in the house at the time. The owner was looking at renting it out.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was an accident. It may have started with paint and oil rags tossed in a plastic bucket. The homeowner is believed to have been using floor cleaning chemicals in the basement.

The exact cause is still under investigation.
