An evacuation drill took
place Monday at the Gardens at Calvary Assisted Living Community in the Columbus
In today's annual offsite
disaster drill, the fake scenario was that a tornado hit the Calvary campus and
damaged the church, the school, and the residential building.
They evacuated one-third
of their population, or about 35 residents to an off-site location.
"We hope we never
need it," said Lisa Dodgen, who works at The Gardens. "Because things do
happen. It allows our staff an opportunity to practice getting residents ready
to go, getting their medications ready to go and notifying the community. All
those things that you have to do in the time of a disaster."
The Gardens at Calvary is
a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, providing assisted living care for elderly
residents in Columbus.
