Volkswagen ran an interactive public service announcement at a movie theater in Hong Kong called Eyes on the Road.
The advertisement begins with a first-person perspective in the driver seat of a car. Then - using location-based GPS capabilities - the theater sent text messages to every member of the audience.
As the moviegoers whip out their phones to check the text messages, the car careens into off the road and smashes into a tree. The cracked windshield fades into a white screen.
A message reads: "Mobile use is now the leading cause of death behind the wheel - a reminder to keep your eyes on the road."
It is unclear whether the theater audience was aware of the texting and driving warning ad before it aired. But the PSA, posted on YouTube June 6, has amassed more than 10 million views.
