SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The man accused of operating the illegal gambling ring that former Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett is accused of protecting, appeared in federal court late Wednesday morning and pleaded not guilty.

Randall Roach Sr. is due back in court Wednesday afternoon and is expected to change that plea to guilty. It is unclear whether this means he is cooperating with prosecutors and providing evidence against Lovett. The U.S. Attorney's Office would not comment.
