Atlanta police were called to the area near Underground Atlanta early Tuesday morning after Banks County 911 reached out to them saying a man threatened to blow up his wife's home. The Banks County Sheriff's Office asked APD to check out the area around Alabama and Pryor Streets to look for the man identified as 45-year-old Chester Thomas Akins.
Police tracked down Akins white Chevy Tahoe at about 5:30 a.m., parked across from the APD precinct at the Underground.
While checking out the SUV, police found a suspicious package with what looked to be wires hanging out beneath the front floorboard.
The SWAT bomb techs and the MARTA K-9 unit were called in to check the vehicle.
Parts of Pryor Street and Central Avenue were blocked off for some time as a bomb robot searched the car.
