Ride the bus on 'dump the pump' day

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Thursday, June 19, the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality is encouraging residents to ride the bus for its annual 'dump the pump' day.

The PCDEQ Clean Air program is sponsoring this 9th annual event, when residents are encouraged to use transit services to help fight air pollution and save money at the pump.

"Gas prices take a big slice out of monthly income and riding transit helps people keep some of that money in their pockets," said Beth Gorman, Sr. Program Manager with PCDEQ.  She herself is a bus-riding veteran, having logged 18 years of using public transportation.

"I feel really good about my commuting choice because riding transit is a way for me to help the environment, reduce congestion, reduce my stress level, save money and meet new people," said Gorman.

Planning a trip via the Sun Tran system is easy, just go online to www.suntran.com and click the 'plan your trip' button near the top of the page. Those with no access to a computer can call Sun Tran Customer Service at (520) 792-9222 and plan their ride.

Sun Tran provides services all around Tucson and surrounding communities via Sun Tran bus, Sun Express which provides rides to major employers, as well as Sun Shuttle which provides service to the outlying communities like Oro Valley, Marana, Catalina, Green Valley, Sahuarita, San Xavier, Tucson Estates, Southeast Tucson and Ajo.
