A child was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in Lawrenceville Wednesday afternoon and later died.
According to a spokesperson with Gwinnett County police, the 13-year-old boy was riding his bike near Club Drive and Woodstream Drive just after 2 p.m. when he was hit by two cars.
Police said Justin Shaw was riding downhill as he approached the posted stop sign on Woodstream Drive, did not stop at the stop sign and entered Club Drive.
Cynthia Hopkins, 49, was driving her 2014 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Club Drive and intended to continue in that direction. Hopkins saw the bicyclist enter Club Drive and immediately applied her brakes. She was unable to stop and struck Justin.
Wei Chen, 24, was driving his 2011 Honda Accord northbound on Club Drive and intended to continue in that direction. The collision caused Justin to enter Chen's lane of travel and Chen also hit Justin.
Justin was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with life threatening injuries. He was later flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.
Charges regarding this accident are not anticipated as the investigation continues.
