Man wanted for murder arrested at Six Flags

A background check on a Holyoke man charged with stealing a woman's purse at Six flags New England turned up quite a surprise.

Police said when they ran the fingerprints of the man who identified himself as Eliezer Santiago, they discovered that his real name was Rafael Cosme-Acevedo, and that he was wanted on a warrant for murder in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Police were called to the park about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after a witness saw two men going through a woman's bag in a bathroom inside the park. The witness observed the two men remove money from the bag and discard it in the trash. That witness recovered the bag from the trash and called park security.

Security located the victim, who was missing more than $60, multiple cell phones and wallets. The total value of the stolen items was about $600, according to our media partner MassLive.

After locating the two suspects, security found two cell phones and some cash on them.

Through a Spanish translator, the two suspects told police they hopped the park fence because one lost his sunglasses on a ride. They told police that they found the cell phones and that they were never in the bathroom.

Police arrested the men and reviewed the FBI fingerprint database and found a match for the man who claimed his name was Eliezer Santiago.

When officers ran his fingerprints they identified him as Cosme-Acevedo, who had a warrant for homicide. They then notified authorities in San Juan who were able to identify and match the same tattoos that were on the man they had in custody.

Cosme-Acevedo, 26, was ordered held without bail on charges of receiving stolen property, giving police a false name, and being a fugitive from justice.
