The Sandy Springs Police standoff with an armed gunman has ended without incident. North Metro SWAT entered the man's residence just after 4 a.m. Thursday. The man, identified as Edward Quenzer, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for mental evaluation.
Sandy Springs Police and North Metro SWAT responded to a call of a gunman inside a home in the 1200 block of Old Woodbine Road Wednesday night.
Just before 10 p.m., Quenzer threatened his mother with a stun gun. She contacted police and informed them her son was displaying symptoms of schizophrenia and paranoia.
When police arrived, they found the mother safe and unharmed. Quenzer refused to come outside to speak with officers. His mother informed them he has at least one or more weapons in the home.
Surrounding residents were evacuated by police as a safety precuation.
