ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Runners and walkers will experience a once-in-a-lifetime 5K race Saturday, as they take the same route that the new streetcars will take once they are operational in downtown Atlanta.

Run the Rails is produced by Central Atlanta Progress in partnership with the city of Atlanta. It will provide participants with a unique way to explore the new transit project while providing a tour of the route.

This will be the only opportunity for the public to run along the route prior to the streetcar's official launch later this summer.

"We believe this event will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the unique assets that will soon be connected and accessible by the streetcar," said A.J. Robinson, president of Central Atlanta Progress.

Run the Rails begins and ends at Woodruff Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The race is scheduled to begin promptly at 8 a.m.
