Rabies alert issued for parts of Henry County

Posted: Updated:

A rabies alert will go into effect in an area of Henry County starting Monday.

"Well, a couple of weeks ago I found this armadillo dead in this driveway here," said Chuck Bruce, a farmer.

The local animal control recently found a dead racoon that tested positive for rabies.

An alert and 31-day quarantine will be issued for residents near Elliott Road and E. Lake Road.

Pet owners are encouraged to get their animals vaccinated and be on the lookout for strange behavior in their pets and wild animals.

According to Henry County Animal Control, so far nine animals have contracted rabies in the area this year.
