COBB COUNTY (CBS46) -

Cobb fire officials pulled a man in his late 20s from the Chattahoochee River on Sunday at about 8 p.m.

The incident happened in Smyrna near Atlanta Road.

Officials said a group of people were playing in the water and a man in his late 20s jumped into the water to save a 6-year-old.

Another person jumped into the water to rescue the 6-year-old, but the man in his late 20s never resurfaced.

The Cobb Fire Department was called and the man was rescued and taken to Emory Adventist Hospital in full cardiac arrest.

It is not clear how long the man was in the water.

The 6-year-old was alert and taken to the hospital as a precaution.
