Daycare worker charged with child cruelty makes first court appearance

Posted: Updated:

A Hall County daycare worker charged with child cruelty went before a judge for the first time Monday.

Eddye Pittmon, 55, of Talmo, was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree child cruelty. She was working at Discovering Basics daycare center where an 18-month-old boy suffered severe burns.

The daycare owner initially said they were not burns on the boy's legs, but an allergic reaction to a bug bite.

"Somebody (at the daycare center) lied to the mother," said Nicole Bails with the Hall County Sheriffs Department. "This child suffered for about eight hours until the mother came."

In court, Pittmon told the judge she understood the charges against her and has hired an attorney. Pittmon is scheduled for a bond hearing Thursday morning.
