Ga. woman sues over alleged wrongful imprisonment

ATLANTA (AP) -

A woman who says she was misidentified and wrongly imprisoned has filed a civil rights lawsuit against officers in two Georgia law enforcement agencies.

The lawsuit was filed Monday on behalf of Joyce Ann Tinsley.

The lawsuit says a Fulton County police officer noticed two Social Security numbers listed for a forgery suspect and failed to correct the error. One of those Social Security numbers was Tinsley's, resulting in the warrant for the suspected forger being connected her.

The lawsuit names three sheriff's deputies in Laurens County and three police officers in Fulton County whom it says repeatedly ignored Tinsley's assertions that they had the wrong person.

Laurens County Sheriff Bill Harrell says he can't comment on pending litigation. The Fulton County Police Department did not have an immediate comment.
