Convicted killer back in jail after judge releases her

Pamela Ballin took a new mug shot when DeKalb County deputies booked her into the jail Thursday morning.

Sheriff Jeff Mann said Ballin reported to the jail shortly before 7 a.m.

"When we received the arrest order Wednesday, her attorney reached out to us and asked that she be allowed to turn herself in and we accommodated that request," said Mann.

Ballin turned herself in after she found out Judge Mark Anthony Scott issued an order on Wednesday for deputies to arrest her.

Ballin's attorney, Keith Adams, believes Scott made a hasty decision by ordering her arrest.

"My client is disappointed. She feels the court should have had a hearing on whether or not the court should have incarcerated her," said Adams.

Last week, a jury found Ballin guilty of murdering her husband Derrick "Rick" Ballin. Instead of imposing a mandatory life sentence, Scott sent Pamela Ballin home while he decides if he will overturn the jury's decision.

That move upset Ricky Ballin's family and prosecutors. District Attorney Robert James then filed a motion on Tuesday demanding Pamela Ballin's arrest. In that motion, James also informed Scott that he released Pamela Ballin without a bond.

In Scott's order for Pamela Ballin's arrest, Scott said prosecutors did not object to him releasing Ballin immediately after the jury's verdict and he stated they did not inform him that she did not have a bond.

"The prosecutor's motion was wrong. It's inaccurate to say my client was out without a bond," said Adams.

Adams said Pamela Ballin's original $100,000 bond from 2009 was still valid, it's just not secured by a bonding company.

Pamela Ballin will be back in court on July 17, that's when Scott will decide if he will acquit her.
