The Fayetteville Police Department’s Fraud Unit is warning residents, specifically senior citizens, about a scam involving a Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputy imposter.
The subject contacts the victim and identifies himself as a deputy. The subject informs the victim that they have failed to appear for a grand jury summons and that they will be arrested unless they pay a penalty.
The subject will provide the victim with instructions on when and where to deliver payment to avoid being arrested.
Victims that have been contacted by the subject have identified the telephone number as (910) 234-0935.
The Fayetteville Police Department is requesting that anyone that has been contacted by someone from that number to call Sergeant T. Bass-Caine or Detective J. Kelly with the Fraud Unit at (910) 433-1856.
Anyone with information concerning the scam or the person involved call Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
